Prof Jeff Szer was the foundation Professor/Director of the Department of Clinical Haematology at Royal Melbourne Hospital and established bone marrow transplant services in Victoria, Australia in 1984. He is an integral member of the BMT team as well as the Classical Haematology group of the Department of Clinical Haematology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Royal Melbourne Hospital established in 2016. He has research interests in stem cell transplantation and several non-malignant haematologic disorders. He has authored over 410 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Internal Medicine Journal and on the Editorial Boards of Blood Reviews, Blood Cell Therapy, BMC Haematology, Blood Cells Molecules and Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation. He is a past President of the World Marrow Donor Association and the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. With Kerry Atkinson, Jeff co-founded the Australasian Bone Marrow Transplant Recipient Registry in 1992 and with Ken Bradstock, Jeff did the same with the Bone Marrow Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand (now the ANZCTC) in 1996. He is a member of the Board of Management and chairs the Scientific Expert Advisory Committee of the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
