Maddie Gilsenan is a paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) & Cellular Therapies Nurse Practitioner, and was the first nurse practitioner appointed, at the Children’s Cancer Centre, RCH in 2019.

Maddie plays an integral role in the care of patients undergoing CAR T cell therapy, and haematopoietic stem cell transplant, with a focus on the early period post-discharge, through her nurse practitioner led outpatient clinic. She played a central role in the implementation of the first Australian paediatric CAR T cell therapy program, at RCH Melbourne. She also has a special interest in patients with aplastic anaemia undergoing immunosuppression therapy, and bone marrow failure.

In addition to clinical care, Maddie has had a longstanding involvement in clinical research. She was BMT Research Nurse Coordinator on the pivotal ELIANA trial of CAR T cell therapy and Harmony study of defibrotide prophylaxis in HSCT, from 2016-2019.
