Speaker | Chair About Rhys Hibbert
Rhys Hibbert is a 17 years old high school student from Sydney. When Rhys was 18 months old, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and treated at the Cancer Centre for Children in the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

In 2023 Rhys founded a charity called Donate for Life (www.donatefor.life), where he encourages 18 year olds in high school to start donating blood products, register their stem cells on the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, and register as a potential donor the Organ Donor Registry.

In addition to his work with Donate for Life, Rhys is also Chair of the Department of Student Voices in Education and Schooling (DOVES). This advisory board was created by the NSW Minister of Education to receive feedback and policy suggestions directly from NSW students. This has enabled Rhys to introduce the goals of Donate for Life to the Minister and his proposals are receiving consideration.

Rhys is a keen kayaker and in October 2024 Rhys will participate in the Hawkesbury River Classic, a 111km kayak down the Hawkesbury River. This annual event is a fundraiser for the Arrow Bone Marrow Trust.
